💡 Medication abortion is available up to 70 days (10 weeks) from your last period. Not sure when that was? No worries! We can arrange an ultrasound to confirm.
How Does It Work?
Step 1: Mifepristone
-
One pill, swallowed with water.
-
Blocks progesterone, which breaks down the lining of the uterus.
Step 2: Misoprostol
-
Four pills, dissolved in your cheeks or placed in your vagina.
-
Causes cramping & bleeding as your uterus empties.
-
Good news: If you have an Ontario health card, Mifegymiso is 100% free! If don't have an Ontario health card, we have a low-cost option.
What to Expect
🩸 Bleeding and cramping (like a heavy period)
🤢 Possible nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills
🛌 Rest and over-the-counter pain meds can help
⏳ Bleeding & cramps may last up to 2 weeks. We’ll check in with you 7-14 days after to make sure everything went as expected.
How Do I Know It Worked?
You can confirm with:
✅ Your symptoms & history
🩸 Blood test (2-3 weeks after)
💦 Urine test (3-4 weeks after)
We’ll go over which method works best for you at your appointment!
How Effective Is It?
💯 Super effective!
✔️ <8 weeks: 98% success rate
✔️ 8-9 weeks: 96% success rate
✔️ 9-10 weeks: 91-93% success rate
If the medications don’t work, we can help arrange a procedural abortion.
